My theory on how the series will end!
I was just sitting in my office and it occurred to me what the ending of the entire series will be!
I am sure, that once everything is sorted, and all the trouble, time travelling, time machine stealing on the island is finished with, there will be no more time travel.
The show will cut to the flight (exactly where it all began) moments before it crashed in the “normal” life, and do you know what will happen?
NOTHING!
The plane will just continue flying, everybody/all the characters will get off at the destination, and continue with their lives as if they had never met each other!!
It’s a bit sad that these close buddies and lovers will not be together and even know/remember their ordeals, but will just continue with their lives as if it never happened.
What do you think?

ive always had a feeling that the ending will be something to do with the very begining but just not sure it will be this.
If you think it about a lot of people have died etc and we know that a pretty much concrete rule is that you cant change the past.
I always thought the ending would be Jacks eye as he wakes up on the island, i dont know why..
nachochris, now there is an interesting take on an ending!
It could work!
So you propose the ending to be the same as we see in “The Butterfly Effect”?
whatistime – I can assure you that Jack waking up back where he started in season 1 will NOT be the ending.
I have not seen Buttefly Effect so would not know! I do not like that actor Ashton K, so did not watch it on that basis 🙂
whatistime in terms of your coment “If you think about it a lot of people have died” these people from the flight died on the island in another time line/a time bubble, so it would not make a difference. The idea is that everything after/before/whenever in relation to the flight does not count. unless the flight in itself was not in the real world/present timeline which is the correct one!!! Which makes my theory wrong anyway. Does that make sense?? Sorry if it does not!!! Thatnks for commenting people, appreciate it.
I hope the characters we invested so much in will not be as broken as when the series started.
If they only retain all their memories of the experiences they went through it would already be a huge change.
If nothing else it is a story of redemption and the human spirit.
I hope it doesn’t end with a “20 years later”
But yes, what you described in the original post is a carbon copy of what happens in The Butterfly Effect. He keeps going back to change the past, and he keeps making things work, so he decides to make it so he never came in contact with the other characters, so they never met to have problems. Then the end the two characters walk by each other not knowing who each other are, but subconsciously recognizing each other, and continue walking.
making things worse*** not work.
Good movie. Very a-propos reference! It would be sad and bittersweet. 20 years later? I shudder.
To be honest though it seems that this could be a possibility, i wouldnt want it to end like that though because like you guys are saying we invested a lot in the characters and not only that but their development through the seasons, so i hope its doesnt end like this. Also it has the same effect as someone waking up and it was all a dream.
Off-topic: the Directors Cut version of The Butterfly Effect is much better IMO. In the end Evan watches a video of his mother giving birth to him, he ends up in the womb and strangles himself so he is never actually born. I hadn’t seen the other ending until a few weeks ago and it’s a dissapoinment in comparison – and The Butterfly Effect is one of my favourite movies.
Maybe at the end of Lost we’ll flash back to the original flight and instead of crashing on the island…… they crash in the Sunda Trench.
Thats a great one as well highbrow. I believe it will be either like you suggest or I did in my theory. They may all have died in the time line and which is why they are all dying one by one on the island! it will be interesting to find out.
