anyone else get that part where daniel asked miles had he been on the island before and he said no and daniel said are you sure about that? and it showed that baby in marvin candles home….could this be?
yeh, either jin or miles. Candle looks more Chinese, so Im betting with Miles. Also, due to time travel stuff involving Candle, it would explain Miles’s apparent ability to ‘see’ or ‘hear’ the past.
I think that after screwing up Suns name they’d be more careful. If Chang were Jin’s father then I think they’d at least have given Chang a Korean name!
I think out of Jin and Miles it will more likely be Miles.
We’ve seen Jins mother and father (well, maybe not his father but he brought Jin up as his own).
Miles: we haven’t seen his parents.
I’m thinking Changs baby hasn’t been born yet and I think it’s an event that will be shown to us.
Is Miles using a fake name in the Dharma era? I don’t think Chang would name him Miles after one of the Dharma employees so if Miles is using a fake name it could add extra credibility to the baby being Miles.
He didn’t stay there very long… and he isn’t there yet. I think the scene where we see the baby happens further in the future from where Miles is now (possible because we see Dan at the Orchid site already in DHARMA uniform. Maybe Miles is gone by then for some reason…
Are you sure the scenes where we see the baby and also see Daniel in uniform at the Orchid is in the future?
When the show ran the first time, my wife suggested it was in teh future, but for some reason I thought it was maybe in the past..
Did I miss something that proved/disproved it was supposed to be the future?
miles does seem to be the most likely probability, but if my spidey sense is right, miles and miles can not and will not exist in the same time period. so if it is miles, it has to be in a period of time where miles does not exist or miles is dead before hand. since we can kinda assume that it’s around the time we are watching on the show now, miles must be going to die.
“Are you sure the scenes where we see the baby and also see Daniel in uniform at the Orchid is in the future?”
The scene with Daniel at the Orchid is in the past from the perspective of the O6 – but from Sawyer and Dharma it appears to be in the future from their point of view (ie. after 1977 but before 2004).
Call me a silly new person, but several points have been discussed here which I’m not following.
1)I don’t know Korean culture terribly well, so I am unaware about what is wrong with Sun’s name. Is it that the parts of her name are no ethnically Korean, or that the way those names are ordered is wrong?
2)Why are we working under the assumption that Miles the baby and Miles the man cannot coexist? Dr. Chang makes precautions for a rabbit sent to its own past wherein it would discover itself immediately, but Miles was sent to a time before he existed, thus his own birth may or may not affect him. Or, the rules could be set up more like in Back to the Future. Meeting oneself is bad, but you can observe yourself so long as your other self doesn’t recognize you.
3) Have we not established that Daniel was present for the video filming in 1979 or 1980, when the Losties are now all in 1977?
Anyway, I agree that Miles is the most likely candidate for the Baby.
you pose some good questions sohrshah, when i say miles can not exist in the same time period, i mean he can not come into contact with the younger miles – they could be real strict and make it so both can not exist on the Island at the same time which in my opinion is more likely. my guess is that if they do exist in the same time period, and there is even a remote chance that they will come into contact, one will die or the older miles would flash away into another time period.
I think that for the sake of constructing a good story, the “rules” will be ignored or Miles’ character will die, IF the baby is indeed him. Only time will tell.
Sun Hwa Palk is her maiden name. Sun Hwa Palk should also be her married name. But on the show they call her Sun Hwa Kwon. Korean women don’t change their name when they get married.
Ah, Ok. Well, unless they wanted to put considerable time into explaining the specifics of Korean naming conventions, I understand why they kept Western naming conventions for a Western audience…it’s still a pretty big mistake, even so. Thanks for the head’s up
shows that the writers are fallible, which is why we should not take ever thing as science and fact. that’s why i always say it’s a TV show after all when trying to defend a concept with holes in it
Yeah, I suppose if they’d done that intentionally I guess it would have been so that they didn’t have to explain it. But I think they admitted at some point that it was a mistake.
It’s not critical by any means but still… they’re usually so careful about everything…
some people have been stating that “miles and miles” can’t exist in the same period.
But we have seen Locke looking over at the luminous hatch, which he knew he was responsible for causing it to light up.
Sawyer said “why dont you just go over there and tell yourself not to make any of the same mistakes” Locke responds “Because then I would not be where I am now”
Also, when Sawyer watches the scene where Kate helps Claire give birth, he had to be getting drunk or sleeping with Anna Lucia somewhere on the island (joke!! dont hold me to that, Anna Lucia may have been dead already)
So apparently people can exist in the same place at the same time.
According to Doc. Brown (back to the future)if Locke were to run into Locke, Sawyer into Sawyer, and the recognized eachother “the consequences could be dire!”
username, I thought we learned that two versions of oneself can exist in the same time period (think the bunnies, and think Locke at the hatch opening), but as long as the two forms do not make physical contact, there is no paradox, as explained by Chang.
Well, it’s a good thing Lost Time Travel is different from Back to the Future Time Travel… Now if we could just rule out Timecop Time Travel…
I agree though… they can exist at the same time… Whatever happened, happed. So if Miles has interaction with his younger self then his younger self didn’t realize it was him or was just too young to remember.
Miles seems to fit the age range. I think Miles has been one person who has kept his agenda hidden all along.
He knows more about everyone else, and little if anything is known about him. I feel this is deliberate!
We know why the other characters, Faraday, Lapidus, and Charlotte were on ‘the island’, and why they were there, and what their ties to ‘the island’ and parents/friends they had.
We have nothing on Miles. I suspect there is a very good reason for this. I say with Miles, expect the unexpected! His connection to ‘the island’, his psychic gift will become evident in the not too distant future.
I believe the writers have kept his character under wraps for a reason.
I think Miles was chosen by Widmore-Abadon to go to the island. I think his primary reason for going was simply money.
They shelled out a lot of money to get him on board and once he knew what the mission was he intuited the possibility of extorting more money out of Ben.
I can just see the little rat jumping ship and helping Ben set up his parallel network to betray and take over Dharma.
could be eh… could also be Jin
yeh, either jin or miles. Candle looks more Chinese, so Im betting with Miles. Also, due to time travel stuff involving Candle, it would explain Miles’s apparent ability to ‘see’ or ‘hear’ the past.
The first time I saw that baby, I screamed Miles. I have never thought different since.
I think that after screwing up Suns name they’d be more careful. If Chang were Jin’s father then I think they’d at least have given Chang a Korean name!
thanks for pointing that out, miles would be a better fit. I’m just not sure how miles can exist twice in the same time period.
I think out of Jin and Miles it will more likely be Miles.

I said it was possibly in the future. It would appear to be from some point after 1974 at least…
miles does seem to be the most likely probability, but if my spidey sense is right, miles and miles can not and will not exist in the same time period. so if it is miles, it has to be in a period of time where miles does not exist or miles is dead before hand. since we can kinda assume that it’s around the time we are watching on the show now, miles must be going to die.

If that makes any sense.
He might just be leaving… you never know. Maybe he gets on the submarine to run out to Tahiti for a pack of smokes and just never comes back…
