Signs of the Apocalypse.

I need to repeatedly study, now that I’ve developed this theory, but basically put:

With the religious symbolism in mind, and after a few episodes this may play a decent part, I believe we have seen a few signs of the Second Coming of Christ, the war between heaven and hell. Keep in mind this is not a literal theory, but rather a thematic related one. The 7th Sign is a good movie and one persons interpretation of the signs of the Apocalypse. The final sign is when the ‘guf’, or bank of souls is empty, the still birth of an unborn child. In the movie Demi Moore gives her entire soul and existence (not just life, she does not go to heaven) to her still birth child, thus preventing the Apocalypse. Not sure if the show is going there. But I think it does include poetic references to different Signs of Revelations. The black smoke (regardless of what we find out what it’s literal existence is) symbolizes the plague of locusts that can be seen in Revelations. It sure sounds like it, and it’s actions can be taken as locust like.

I will be going back and looking for others and will update you if/when I find something. Remember, this is all poetic symbolism, and nothing literal.

  1. TehIgnored, I love the movie you are referencing. I believe it was the ‘Seventh Seal’.

I think Lost definitely implies plenty of ‘poetic symbolism’, if not literal, to say the very least!

The Apocalyptic implications are certainly present, throughout! Something which is hard to deny! The ‘smoke monster, the very essence of Jacob, not to mention John Locke’s resurrection!

I like your reference to ‘the guff’ being empty, as that in particular might explain why women on ‘the island’ can no longer give birth!

There are so many literary and biblical references in Lost. This definitely is a nice comparable.

    Nice theory!

  2. One literal theory that was discussed today at work with my friends and I of the children:

815 is now in 1977. Those who are there prior to Amy’s baby were not born yet. Someone of those who showed up from 316 has been born by 77.

Perhaps the existence of two selves (40 yr old Sayid on island – 2 yr old Sayid off island as an example) is what makes women unable to both conceive and give birth on the island.

Therefor Sawyer, Miles, Juliet, and Faraday were born post 77, but someone from 316 was born on or before 77.

    Just a thought.
