Course correction… I REMEMBER!!
Hey guys,
one think that has been driving me insane these past few weeks in the show is the fact that
everyone who experienced an event in the past(before 815) that involved Desmond or the 815ers
doesn’t seem to remember that person when they see them or fails to bring it to their attention.
Another thing that bugged me was why Rousseaux told Sayid she had never seen the others
when we all saw ben kidnap Alex when Daniele was very much awake. but ill have a go at that later.
Staying with Rousseaux the main thing that jumped out at me was how on earth would you
forget a korean guy that disappeared right infront of your eyes?? and then be unable to recognize him
when you met him in the future??
Or Why did desmond take almost six years to remember that Daniel told him that he had to talk to Elouise Hawking
to help get everybody back to the island?? surely he would have recognized him when he met him later on the island??
Or Ben?? he should have recognize the man who shot him in cold blood.

anyway the wall in my room is a very good therapist 😛 i gave it a bit of thought and tried imagining
that they would remember it all.
Guess what highbrow!! The sequence of Events changes I.E the past is changed PROBLEM
Ben may have understood that and not approached Sayid
Richard also may have understood this.
But Daniele and Desmond?? i think they would have wanted explanations about the disappearing act
Therefore the Universe is presented with two choices:
-Have someone go around specifically explaining and threatening them about the whole thing
IE act normal and everything will be fine
-Destroy the memories or atleast postpone their recognition in the Host to dodge the paradoxes
thrown at you by J.I.M(ode to AES :D)[ Jacob.Island.Monster ]
So unless richard decides to go on a *round the plane* tour and explain everything to everyone
about what they can or can’t do J.I.M has been the tool of god and surpressed everyones memories
to preserve the universal balance and therefore itself.
Whatever happened might not have happened the way you remember it until you get to relive it again
or get lectured by some guy that never gets old but still IT HAPPENED!!

I think that there is a posibility that if Daniel Faraday, on his biological 2004 travels back to 2000 (for example) and talks to Desmond, Desmond will remember this only on 2004, (four years later). This would explain why Ben and Rouseau didn’t remember the lostiles. They would remember on 2007, the year when the losties travelled back and met them in the past.
This theory lacks on when someone’s memory is “lost”… Young Ben remembered sayid before Richard took him to the temple… But what about Rouseau? When she will forget about Jin?
I was imagining an awfull 6th season ending.. haha… Jack is lying like in the pilot trying to remember everything and he says: “oh my god, my memory is..” and then the LOST logo apears with the “poom” sound. I hope not!

He remembered it in a dream at that point because JIM
Made sure that he did so he would eventually end up on the island again(I’m sure he will)
I agree ben might have forgotten about the 1977 losties after the transformation but not daniele 😮
I realize the ‘unknowing’ is still a bit shady but it still happens

Anything could have happened to Danielle that would have affected her memory. We still have several years solitary island life that we haven’t seen yet. Maybe the smoke monster did something to her. Obviously something happens at the temple that can affect memory. There has been questions about how a mother can forget her own child being taken from her and maybe the answer is that she can’t. It’s one of the few memories that made it through whatever has been done to her.
Desmond, I believe, was doing his consciousness time travel thingy. He thought it was a dream but it seemed so real, right? Like he was really there… I think he was. That is the one and only way to explain why he would have that memory right then. The only other connection you can make between those two time periods is through us, the viewers and that wouldn’t work. That would be a huge mistake for the show.

It seems like we just have to believe that J.I.M. Can actually erase someone’s memory & all that godly stuff (Jacob can be a Lost Character, We are T.T.)
An I was very convinced that maybe you can change the past due to Faraday doing something that different (or maybe it always happened IDK) an all of a sudden Des remembers years later after its already happened??
There has to be an explanation for this but Highbrow I think you brought me back to its all been done B4, Cause Des is SO SPECIAL to this whole thing an he is only one who does this Forward conscious thing were he SEES the future.
In 1996 he was supposedly in Widmore’s office to ask for Penny’s hand in marriage but when WIdy says “no” Des leaves & see’s Charlie Pace on street & remembers an Island he has never been too with a man he never met.(why doesnt Des Remember Charlie from then?)
Desmond has done two different kind of time travels. The one you’re talking about was from the episode “Flashes Before Your Eyes”. In that episode it was Desmonds future consciousness (from 2004) in his past body (1996). So he recognizes Charlie. 1996 Desmond doesn’t remember Charlie because he never met him.
How do you know the episodes highbrow??
Man thats crazy but wouldnt that mean in another time like in 1996 for example, Do you think the events are also happening in 2004 & thats why he all of a sudden knows Charlie? in a way.
So almost like parralel universes not REALLY but kind of…Like there is a Future me as we speak living it up in his time(the future)
Almost like there are more of me just im not aware kind of thing but WHY wouldnt Des get these flashes when he runs into Jack running??
This is after he already met with Charlie Pace so why not then??
You’re right about Desmond, highbrow! That is exactly why he doesn’t remember him.
Skil1, you raise some good issues on the whole memory thing of the characters. I would be inclined to agree with you on some of the characters.
I think in Danielle’s case, the combination of 16 years on ‘the island’, the isolation and deteriorating mental condition may be enough of a reason not to specifically recall her encounter with Ben.
It is a stretch, but one that is somewhat believable, IMO.
Once the writers actually explain the whole premise of the show, I am sure these things will make more sense!

Yes bing but no paradox is created because when DES met jack they were both the past/present versions of themselves so neither knew things at the time that could affect the islands wishes.
In fairness 16 years is a long time for rousseaux but if she remembered her daughter getting kidnapped she would remember Jin disappearing because surely the first thing that the others would want her to forget would be the kidnapping. Therefore I don’t think daniele forgot because of her lonlieness or insanity or influence by the others

Just in case nobody said this yet, the episode where young Ben was brought to the others to be healed, Alpert said that Ben would lose his innocence and he will forget the incident ever happened. The writers of lost are so ridiculously good at tying up loose ends.
