Say hello to my… shoes?

The shoes. Christian’s Shoes on Locke’s feet. I’ve been reading on different sites questions about the shoes and that scene when Locke gets out of the boat after traveling to the main island and puts the shoes back on… what does it mean? Is there still significance to the shoes? AES asked about this a while ago and I made fun of him (partially at his own reqeust)… Here’s what I think now.

When John Locke turned the wheel Christian says to him “Say hello to my son”… to me that was a clue that the person we’ve been seeing on the island is actually none other than Christian Shephard. The actual Christian. Not the smoke monster. Not the island showing visions. The guy who is actually Jack’s father.

So what about the shoes then? Well, the shoes are a clue to a different but quite similar mystery. Is John Locke actually resurrected or is he just the smoke monster? I think this clue proves that the John Locke we see walking around on the island is none other than the John Locke. The actual John Locke. As in, the body that Jack put the shoes on before they got on flight 316. Not the smoke monster.

This also plays into something else. Ben and the things he’s been saying about John Locke to Sun et al. Like he’s some kind of abomination from beyond the grave and cannot be trusted. I think he tried to imply to Sun that the man she’s been talking to is not the real John Locke. Is he being truthful or is he yet again trying to foster mistrust in others towards John Locke? I think it’s all a benipulation. I think Ben knows Christian (he kind of let on that he did when Sun mentioned his name) and so I think he knows who/what Christian is. I think Ben is talking out his backside again when he says that he has never heard of the island bringing someone back to life. What a liar!

  1. Great topic, highbrow!

You will get no argument from me on any of your theory! It is clear that John Locke is, John Locke the man.

Also, by Christian asking Locke to deliver a ‘personal’ message to his son, Jack, that tells me, he is the real Christian Shepherd, and not acting as the smoke monster in that instance.

The only thing with Christian, that I am still uncertain of is, has he been resurrected like John.

Ben definitely seemed to know who Christian was, when Sun brought up his name.

I think Ben will continue to lie and ‘benipulate’ to make ‘the losties’ believe that John is not to be trusted, and is not what he appears to be.

That’s just what Ben does! He’s like ‘Wiley Coyote’.

  2. He also mentioned to Vincent to go to his son in one of the mobisodes. I still don’t think he is Christian, no more than the young lady that called Ben daddy, was Alex underneath the temple.

  3. The thing that still bugs me is that Christian can just appear out of nowhere (on the freighter just before it blows, at the FDW with Locke). Can John now do this as well? It doesn’t appear so, but who knows? I do believe that Locke is Locke. He told Sun as much straight up. Christian though is what bugs me. There is evidence to go both ways with him.

  4. The one thing which sells Christian Shepherd as being a ‘real’ person, as opposed to any kind of spirit is, the fact that Miles sees him leave with Claire.

Now Miles only talks to the dead, he does not see them, like Hurley does.

  5. yeah I feel that its the real John Locke, He did seem a lil strange but he was dead only to be brought back so maybe he has a wealth of insight just from that.

As for Christian, IDK he is ‘normal’ at times then somewhat really strange…I wasnt aware of this but I read on somebody’s comment that Christian was on the freighter somehow B4 it blew up?? (Correct me if im wrong)

How i can explain that i cant, An maybe the shoes are a way to resurrect the dead with the same SOUL i guess or same demeanor.

Ahhh maybe not cause its Jacks dads shoe’s that are on Locke’s feet so that wouldnt make sense.

I also read from somebody’s idea about how Christian’s body could be a perfect HOST for Jacob or something along those lines, Because he wasnt disembowled yet.(Either was Yemi & the dead peep on the smuggler’s plane as well as those two buried alive on the Island so why not them also??)

  6. lost4815162342, the one thing about Christian that has been verified is that at times the smoke monster has used him. The same way the smoke monster has used Walt, and Walt is alive!

    Therein, lies the confusion!

Miles does NOT see dead people. And, Miles saw Christian!

  7. Christian may be something else… not someone else but what I mean is he might be in a different state than Locke. Either way I still think it’s actually Christian and I still think he was resurrected. Maybe he turned out different because he was wearing inappropriate shoes…

There is a big, huge, glaring difference between the Christian who appeared to Mike on the frieghter and the Alex who appeared to Ben in the temple. Alex is a very important figure from Bens past and her appearance was sure to have a huge impact on Ben. Impact was what the smoke monster was going for at that time. Mike doesn’t have the slightest clue who Christian is. If that isn’t really Christian appearing to Mike on the freighter then why the heck would he/she/it appear as Christian? Same with Christian who appeared to Sun and Frank.

  8. Would I be wrong to assume we will see a younger Christian, on island soon…possibly a figure of power, not unklike a Widmore, Ben, or even Horace?
Not sure his side, but I would bet he is/was an other, being his allowance to dwell in Jacobs Cabin…

  9. I guess Christian is just a ghost then?? I still wonder what his history is with the island. I wouldn’t think that the island would just arbitrarily choose him to be able to appear to all of these people.

  10. AES, I agree with you. I think we have said that we feel Christian had involvement off of ‘the island’ as an ‘other’.

Also, Ben seems to know who he is. So, that should not be discounted!

  11. christian suddenly appears on the boat after whispers are heard. the psychiatrist other (goodwins wife) also pulls this trick in the forest to talk to juliet. it has nothing to do with him being alive/dead. its a cool trick the other seem to be able to do.

also i read on lostpedia that locke clicked the heels of the shoe three times when cleaning sand off of them, as a reference to the wizard of oz. locke gets the shoes off island form jack and then is able to go “home”, because the island is where he feels he belongs

  12. Totally. I wonder if Ray will be an Other… and maybe Jacks mom will turn out to be DHARMA… and maybe Ray disapproved of her for that exact reason…

That and she had terrible taste in shoes…

  13. But what Ray doesn’t realize is that the shoes are DHARMA standard issue and she doesn’t have a choice. Bust still…

Thirty Helens agree: You can’t pay too much for a good pair of shoes!

“My God, your feet are what you walk on!”

  14. But still… geez. Sometimes I like to head down into Detroit at night and rap in some of the underground clubs… I like to “bust ill”.

    That was horrible.

  15. HAHAHAHA wait wait let me pick me butt of the ground cause i just laughed my ass off.

lol highbrow i didnt you flow, ha you go & ill be next & leave you lost like the Show

im jk but very funny though, your from detroit??

  16. If Christian is an other and on the island in 77, wouldn’t that mean that Jack is there as a baby as well, unless Christian went with Widmore to hook up with outsiders and that is how/why he left the island too.

  17. Thats def a good theory 96brian, It could def be Christian cause he seems way to connected to the island.

An Everybody seems like they are there for a reason so makes sense.

  18. I agree, I think Ben knows who and what Christian is. He did not seem very affected or concerned when Sun mentioned “a weird man named Christian” almost as if Ben knew that Christian would and should be walking around and talking to people
