1) Rouseau’s party had ‘the sickness’ after being close enough to the temple to say Smokie was the security system … could they have become jaded like Ben, only fully ‘cuz they just trampled sacred ground
2) How often does Smokie appear without a dead someone appear first?
1. The ones who got the sickness were the ones that went underground, in that hole. Maybe “the island” took their innocense like it did Ben. Leaving them all weird and willing to kill Rousseau so easily.

1. They didn’t really get a “sickness” Rousseau called it a sickness. She thought they were sick because the ones who went down to the temple came back and said stuff about the island that sounded crazy to her. Her husband was only about to shoot Rousseau because she had already killed the other two people and she had a gun pointed at him, honestly who wouldn’t try to kill that person.
