good vs evil & eko
hey everyone this is my 1st post, woohoo!! i agree that lost seems 2 be about good vs evil. ive jst had a thought, i know mr eko is no longer in the show, but if the smoke monster & jacobs rival is the evil or some kind of satan or something? that maybe the reason it killed mr eko was because he was a priest? a fake one really, but on the island he was trying 2 redeem himself by following in his brothers footsteps? he would often recite things from the bible, he christened aaron & was building a church, well up2 the time smokie got him anyway?was thinking the evil killed him because it didnt want anymore good/religion of any kind on the island as it may definately loose? the shows revieled 2 us aswell that smokie is some kind of test, it let ben live and he has done some really bad things and continues 2 do so by killing jacob, locke etc,etc before that. i know eko had done lots of bad things aswell but he really did change on the island compared to what he was like before 815 crashed. so why excuse ben and not eko?? could be though that it spared ben because it needed/already planned 2 use him 2 kill jacob?? dunno?? any thoughs about this? sorry if this has already been posted at somepoint (maybe a few years ago when eko was actually in the show)lol. come on i had 2 post something about eko for my 1st time, it is my username after all, lol. cheers guys, eko rocks over but hopefully not out lol.

I think it’s important not to look at the two sides as good and evil, but rather more of a Yin and Yang. Morality is a subjective proposition grounded in theology. While the show does emphasize the difference between “good” and “bad” behavior and how the “rivals” interpret it, we really haven’t had any reason to suggest that both aren’t just two equal parts of a whole.
Eko was a fun character; I think they had more planned for him but the actor decided to leave the show.
As for Smokey’s behavior, seems that every time he has influenced someone it has been to reinforce the naughty thoughts bouncing through their heads in order to prove that man is ultimately corrupt.
I agree with you, when smokie let ben live, then ghost alex showed up afterwards telling ben to do what locke asked him to do, then locke told ben to kill jacob, then it wasnt really locke, it has to be some sort of evil. And yes, eko does rock.
Although the smoke monster let Eko off when he was looking for the heroin plane with Charlie?
Well, we all believe the smoke monster(jacobs rival) is trying to prove mankind is evil, corrupt etc… whereas jacob is trying to show mankind is inherently good, and also can become better, that they can be saved. The Black smoke maybe left Eko to look for the heroine possibly because he thought Eko would fall back into his old ways with drugs and violence etc.. just an idea..
One big difference between Ben and Eko: When Eko was confronted be the smoke monster (in the for of Yemi) he stated his lack of regret for what he had done (ie killing a man) and that he would not take it back. Then he was killed. Ben expressed remorse and regret, and was allowed to live.
To me, this seems to indicate that smokey sees Ben as the one most able/willing to change…and as this seems to be the viewpoint of Jacob, not rival, I don’t think smokey and rival are one and the same.
in the FORM of Yemi…
Ben is the one most able/willing to change? Ben was nearly going to cry for obeying Locke, that was not willing to change. He got a threat that’s why he decided to obey. And because he knows about smokey he didn’t want to take his chances, simple as that. Ben is the worst kind. He tried several times to kill Locke because he was afraid of getting his leadership, then when he saw Locke alive he pissed himself.
No, I don’t think Ben was Jacob’s doing.
It could also be the case that smoke monster works for both men, each one manipulates it for their own purposes. Or both of them can take forms.
Can anyone please tell me what was the ash outside the cabin when Ilana was searching for Jacob?
Al, the Circle of Ash, is symbolic of the Circle of Protection!
A Circle of Protection may serve to either keep something inside of the Circle protected, (by not allowing anything evil or untoward to enter), or it may serve as a way of harnessing, (trapping), the evil inside of the Circle.
If you Google Circle of Protection there is some good information!
Hope that is helpful!
Thank you very much, it was. So what’s the theory about this?
