Season 6…where will it start??
Hi folks,
The season 5 finale got me thinking; what if what we’re watching is the same thing that’s been happening time and time again. If ‘the incident’ happened the same way it did before then surely the outcome will be the same…our losties crash on the island and they go through this whole process again and again. Perhaps they are all on a loop that cannot be broken by choice alone, a higher power (Jacob/Man in Black/Smoke Monster/People we don’t know of yet) may have to intervene in order for the cycle to be broken.
My question is…when season 6 starts, do you think that we will see one or more of our losties wake up in the jungle again, perhaps having no recollection of where/when they are, trying to piece everything back together again (i.e. season 1 all over again)? Or do you think there’ll be a direct continuation of season 5?
It’s all a bit of fun really.

Yes, I think it will start with one of the Losties waking up in the jungle, not knowing what the heck is going on. It’ll be one of the Losties previously in 1977 but it will be in 2007. The incident happened exactly the way it originally did. Radzinsky drills into the pocket and the losties seal it up. Radzinsky survives, establishes the Swan and the protocol and drills back into the pocket. Time passes, he blows his brains out, Desmond shows up, kills Inman, runs back, presses the button late, plane crashes… all that stuff will happen / has happened. It happened once though, we’ve just seen it out of order. Now the story will continue in 2007 with the Losties reunited.
Does that mean the losties are done in 1977 now, and don’t have anything left to do there? Do you think they’ve accomplished what they needed to do?
Yes, I think they’re done in 1977. If they’re not then they’re dead.
What did they accomplish in 1977? Hmmm, they ensured that Ben would grow up to be the Ben we all know, they made sure that Richard would trust Facke in spite of his instincts against it, they made sure the DHARMA Initiative would know what they were dealing with at the Swan site and that they knew how to seal off the pocket after they drilled into it… Yeah, I’d say they pretty much set up everything that happened to them in 2004 and their work is done.
Cool. I just get the feeling though that we may not have seen the last of 1977…I guess we’ll find out.
So you reckon season 6 will see everyone back together in the present, huh?
Everyone on the island in 2007, yes. Not necessarily together though but they’ll find each other. I think the losties from ’77 are the ones Jacob was talking about when he said they were coming.
I wonder about Rose and Bernard though… they might stay in the past…
In the beginning of season 6 we will see hugo’s dad arriving on the island after joining the dharma initiative.Oh we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of this guy you mark my words. GOD HUH
Since season two, all of LOST’s season premieres have directly addressed one of the cliffhangers from the previous finale right off the bat. And most have also been centered on introducing new characters.
Season one ends with the opening of the hatch and the raft attack, season two starts with us starting a day with Desmond in the hatch.
Season two ended with us realizing the Others had a little utopia. Season three opens with us preparing for a book club meeting with Juliet.
Season three leaves us realizing some of our characters have left the island. Season four opens with us learning exactly six left (we got one new member of the O6 each new episode).
Season four ends with us wondering, “um…what happened to the island and the people on it?” Season five starts with us seeing they are in the 70s and skipping around in time.
This season left us with some good cliffhangers: What happened with the white flash? Who is Jacob’s friend that hates fish and sailors so much? Wasn’t that the Black Rock? Is Jacob really dead? Who are “they” in “they’re coming?” Why did Jacob bestow/curse Richard with agelessness?
In classic LOST fashion, I expect Season six to open with the answering of one of these questions through the introduction of new characters. I suppose that the season will open with us on the Black Rock and getting to know the crew. We will learn more about our trusted? adviser Richard Alpert. I would think the episode would be Jacob centric, but the finale was, maybe then, the premiere will focus on the bearded man in black.
I may be wrong about the focus of the opening scene, but I’d be pretty surprised if it didn’t immediately address one of the cliffhangers and introduce some new characters for season six.
i thought that the black smoke was a ‘security system’ is it not. if i am wrong please throw me a lifeline and help me out.
I don’t think that ’77 is done although I do agree that the Losties will be back in 2007 but maybe not all, only the oceanic crew… so sorry MIles). Also Juliet will be no where to be found and have only a minor recurring role since she has another new show starting on ABC (V). I think Miles stays and is our window into the events still to come 1977 to the purge and on… the Losties will uncover their destinies in 2007 and the ‘end’ of the show… and finally Jacob and the bearded dude will meet Richard (and the Black Rock) and fill us in from 1900ish to the 1950s when Ellie and the Others start their current reign. So three main timelines (also I hope Dan is back somehow, maybe he was like Locke and was only a ‘fake dan’ who got murdered, they did say to him, like Locke, that he seemed different).
I’ve got a feeling that we may well see Juliet and Daniel again…I don’t think the island’s finished with them yet. Saying that though, Juliet was given quite a send off in the finale. It seemed like she was saying her final goodbyes. I hope not, I like Juliet…I’m still not entirely convinced she’s one of the good guys!!
