What if the Shed is Smokey’s house – Jacob “lies in the shadow of the statue”

If they know that Jacob – the one who will save us – lies in the shadow of the statue, why did they go to the shed first?

Ben admitted that he has never seen Jacob.

I think Richard has not allowed him.

“Oh so now all this time you’ve decided to stop ignoring me. I was on this island for 35 years and all I ever heard was your name over and over. Richard bringing me all your instructions. All those slips of paper and lists. I never questioned anything. … When I dared to ask you to see you, I was told, you have to wait. You have to be patient. But when [Locke] askes, he gets marched straight up here like he was Moses. Why him? What’s so wrong with me? What about me?”

When Ilana and team went to the shed, they said “HE isn’t here.” I don’t think they were looking for Jacob. I don’t think Jacob ever lived in the shed. I think Smokey and/or Jacob’s Nemesis lived in the shed. The only person to ever say – far as I can recall/find on Lostpedia – that Jacob lived in the shed is Ben.

This is also why Christian was seen by Hurley in the shed (and we KNOW that was Smokey).

I think Ilana went to make sure that Smokey/Nemesis was in check. Seeing that the ash was disturbed, they knew that he was “loose.” I think maybe he’s been loose the whole time (2004 time that is). I wonder if Ben was the one to let him out? There’s no mention of Smokey in 74-77.

I wonder if Ben found the shack by accident, and Smokey quickly tricked him into thinking HE was Jacob.

I wonder how he got contained in the shack in the first place. I wonder if Richard did that for Jacob, and was rewarded with eternal life.

  1. tqbrady, Ben had no reason to go to the cabin, as Richard Alpert was the only person visiting and communicating with Jacob. He was conning Locke at the time, so it may have been Ben’s first visit. Ben admits this in the finale.

It’s my personal belief that the ‘ash’ was disturbed when Locke and Ben visited there, in TMBTC, but am looking to verify this.

We don’t know that Jacob’s Nemesis and the smoke monster are one in the same. That is an assumption, which may be incorrect.

  2. I do think the shack held the RoJ (Rival of Jacob), though I don’t think he’s the smoke monster.

But, wasn’t the shack built by Horace? Or was the Horace image another bodily manifestation?

If it was Horace, then maybe Jacob put RoJ there after ‘the incident’ … maybe Rajinsky (sic) had a bodily manifestation vision that told him to keep drillin’ (and maybe he has one that reminds him of stuff for his photographic memory).

And, didn’t Hurley move some sand when he was lookin’ for the cabin? (It could have been John ‘helping’ him in the cabin.)

    And who did Hurley see?

Yeah, I think Jacob is what lives in the shadow of the statue, and always has. I also don’t think this is a loophole – but something set-up by Jacob to prove his point.

  3. When I “lies in the shadow of the statue” in print it occured to me that their could be two very different meanings of the word “Lies”.
