perhaps Jacob was the “clever fellow” of the US army, cause in cast call they were looking for a previous army man! Also I have a great Idea for the next episode, Jacob and his fellow member of Army (MiB) are working in the lampost station then they find the island and set of to Iowa to another pocket of energy, in Iowa they stop for gas and Jacob goes in to the store to pay, there he encounters Kate stealing as a little girly, he offers to pay for her and says ” your’e never gonna steal again are you”, then continues on his journey to the pocket of energy in Iowa with MiB, but they return to the island in 1802. Meanwhile, the losties follow Pierre Chang and miles away from the energy, Juliet lefts off the bomb then they see an explosion coming for them, but at the same time the bomb activatses the electromagnetism and causes the white light to transport the losties to another time on the island, they notice the explosion has stopped and there is no debris anywhere, they cleverly make their way back to the swan and discover it has imploded and summise that they must be sometime between 2005 and 2008, they then here a rumbling in the trees and out pops Eloise Hawking she then looks at them all pleased and says “well, you finally made it”, Sawyer throws her a look of disgust and Confusion then Boom! cut to commercial. sound good! LOL 😀
In answer to your question brianu, maybe they were always enemies, as the old saying goes “keep your enemies closer”, or they developed a nemises on the island maybe when Jacob revealed his plans to his enemy or partner!
Ellie didn’t find the solution to locating the Island, she said “a very clever MAN discovered a way of predicting when the island would be and not where”
In answer to your question bigdaveg, I guess if H-bombs werent invented until the 1950’s then the army dindnt bring the hydrogen bomb to the island until the 1950’s. I already know that Eloise didnt find the solution to when the island would be and that “a very clever FELLOW” came up with the solution, i’m sorry if you picked my theory up the wrong way, but Eloise did locate the island in season 5, episode 2, WATCH IT! 🙂
correction, Eloise located were the island would be in a certain point in time, ie she found a window, beleive me I know the basics! 🙂 watch the end of season 5 episode 2 and they show a clip of her in the station and she was doing calculations and she looked at the pendulum and then her computer showed her a location for the island, she then went up to the church to meet Ben! 🙂
I think Daniel Faraday designed the Lampost after leaving the Island in the 70’s. it was all of his calculations on the chalk board Ms. Hawking was writing out.
The equations were used in combination with the electromagnetic anomoly to determine WHEN the island was and the pendulum was used to determine WHERE it was. If the Island is physically changing location on the planet, then the pendulum would detect the slight movement of the Earth and locate where it was.
Which is suggested by looking at the different criss-crosses the pendulum made, in various places throughout the Pacific.
If a body of land the size of the Island moved it would offset the wobble of the Earth, there fore allowing through the use of the pendulum and the calculations to determine where and when it is.
Remember in high school composition class. You started a story, and then the next student wrote the second part, and so on. Thats what this reads like. Lots of detail though.

I agree she found the island for the losties to return but i dont think she was the original person to find the island. I agree with JediRedeye that it was Daniel Faraday who invented the means to locate the Island she is just using his methods and equation formula to find it.
Hello everyone I don’t post that often, for I like reading what everyone else has to say and see where it fits in with my own thoughts and theories. Marting brings up a very interesting point about who might have built the lamp post for mr daniel. The army navy and the air force used pendulums during world war one and world war to to locate magneitc fields and electromagenetic anonolies in the atmosphere and the land they were occupying or sweeping to locate secure areas for radio traffic and to protect the service members from electric shock while laying down grounf wires for generators and radios. My Grandfather and I love lost and when I explained and showed this post to him he went in to detail on how this is a very solid lead, great job for picking up on it.
