Sickness/Smoke Monster

So now, I’m rewatching the episode showing Rousseau’s team, and I’ve come to a conclusion. After the guy was dragged into the temple by the smoke monster the other men followed him in. Jin convinced her to wait outside, due to her pregnancy. When they all came out Rousseau believed they were sick. So she killed them all. I no longer think she really killed any of them, b/c they were all already killed by the smoke monster. They were the smoke monster walking around, and she could see them for what were. The smoke monster was materializing as them, as he did w/ John Locke, Yemi, and most likely Christian and Claire. Thoughts?

  1. Totally agree, always have.

Through re-watching the episodes over and over again I keep coming to the conclusion that the whispers and Rousseau are the key to this show.

    Nice post!

  2. I like it, yet we dont know if the smoke monster is infact the ‘power’ that took over Locke..
But it seems possible, and just for the record, I am really looking forward to season 6, the ‘supernatural’ twist to it has me begging for Lost now.

  3. Sinster, this is a completely logical conclusion, IMO!

I found it hard to believe that the smoke monster would just allow the two of them to leave. That would be very unlike how the smoke monster acts.

Seeing the look on Robert’s face, made me think he was possessed!

    I love this theory!

  4. actually that is a good theory…

Im not sure if i am remembering this correctly but during season one when they hear the transmission for the first time, the one shannon translates, doesn’t she say “the monster killed them all, I am the only one left”???

and if that is the case, maybe Rousseau later recanted what she said, and left it at I killed the others only to not seem crazy.

  5. I’m still not convinced that Smokey is MIB, so that takes Locke out of the picture as far as I’m concerned. However, Smokey is still a shape-shifter, so I do think it was Smokey that was Rousseau’s team was whrn they came out, yes. And I agree Smokey killed them first. I don’t know about Yemi (who was she again? It’s hard to keep track), but as for Claire I’d say yes, what happened to Rousseau’s team happened to her too. But here is the problem I have with Christian: We assume Smokey kills the people first. Christian died off the island. We have not seen Smokey off island at all. So the only way Smokey could “shift” into Christian is if Smokey has the ability to shift into ANY dead person. But there is a problem there, too. Walt, as far as we know, is still alive. Smokey shifted into Walt, unless this means that Walt’s shifter was MIB, which means Smokey and MIB are NOT the same entity.

Unless Walt, a poor innocent child 😉 ,is Smokey or MIB.

  6. Miles. Been wonderin’ why they needed someone who knew dead, yet he didn’t get any vibes on this island of death.

Maybe he’s there to ‘see’ a dead guy for who he is. (ex. Locke/Christian … )

  7. I’ve recently rewatched the episode where the cabin blew up with Claire in it, and I think Myles knew the entire time that something may be off with her. While they were walking through the jungle w/ Sawyer he kept on saying things 2 her. Sawyer even threatened him w/ a restraining order.

  8. waycurious: your thinking that Miles could find out the answer? I like, and agree. I also have been a little perplexed as to why Miles was added to the show. Good call.

    Sinster: what episode was that?

  9. I believe the episode was, The Shape Of Things To Come. (Which is actually a great title in support of my theory on the smoke monster/sickness.)

  10. yes, id forgot about that whole incident with myles and claire. of course i just thought he was being funny as he is wont to do. not like purposely funny, but u know how myles is. “i see dead people…”, oh no wait, thats hurley, lol. (p.s. hurley doesn’t see dead people, thats the Island talking to him, or Jacob, or MIB… oh bloody hell, ive lost my place. where was i? oh yes…)
Claire being dead would explain her behaviour… but i just can’t get past “he needs to be raised by you” as told to claire by that so called “phony” fortune teller (but WAS he phony?).
he needs to be raised by you or what? he becomes Lord Voldemort or something? oh dear, i do sense my own theory brewing…

  11. it was the episode after shape of things to come. Something nice back home. But i dont see what he asks her, she stumbles he says ‘you ok’, then she says ‘yes, just a bit woozy. at least im not seeing things anymore’ and he says ‘yeah? what did you see?’ then sawyer tells him to back off and stop making conversation and make time.
