Locke-in-a-box, why body needed?

Locke has 2 bodies on the island right now. If the dead one was needed to ‘go into’ and reanimate, why is there still one in the box?

  1. It’s the writers crafty way of saying: The all-knowing creepy Locke that’s slinking around the island and acting all spylike is not the real Locke.

I think MIB is sort of like a boggart (if you know what that is) in the sense that he can change his appearence to look like anybody.

  2. not sure about the body thing, im sure season 6 will explain it, my question is, which will not show up in the posted questions is why does locke need Alpert to show him where Jacob is when Jacob already told him where he would be?

  3. This MIB has taken Locke’s form and doesn’t want to tip his hand until he has killed Jacob. Just like the cabin-he can not enter. He needs someone to give him access. Richard know how to get in, and since our MIB is an imposter, Ben at that time is still the de-facto leader. Only a leader can see Jacob face-to-face, thus, the MIB needs Ben so he can actually get inside to Jacob after Richard opens the door. Notice that he was careful not to touch anything while he was in there…makes me wonder if Jacob’s lair/home is somehow consecrated to keep the MIB out.

  4. would have been funnier with jack-in-a-box…

the way john has “come back to life” is very different to the way christian came back.
as far as we know, christian’s body is being used (like a puppet i suppose), and there wasnt one in the coffin..so unless christian/whatever has been really clever and disposed of the spare body, maybe it is different circumstance in how he’s come about than whats happening to locke.

also, i think if locke marched straight over to jacob’s place it would look a bit suspicious..

  5. But then couldn’t FLocke just pretend to be Locke when Locke turned the wheel? He had no reason to believe FLocke would make it back and none he’s seen since were there when he turned the FDW.

It seems he has to be who died. Like Ben’s mom …

  6. I am watching season 1 for the first time and the Locke at the beginning of season 1 acts alot like the resurrected Locke in terms of confidence and some creepy appearances right after boars and the monster disappear.

In the season finale he is clearly also MIB but maybe he was always an incarnation of MIB but didn’t know it. Or maybe they merged.

Then the Locke in a box would be a fake (smoke monster?) or it would be Locke taken from out of a different time or from an alternate universe.

  7. FLocke was different and didn’t seem to have any memories of the past time on the island. If you listen to how he answered questions, etc. in retrospect, he was cagey … often answering with a question like, “What do you think?”

He was a man with a plan and knew he had to be told he had to die, but that was MIBs plan (assuming we’re with that theory).

Conversely, he knew he was paralyzed from before (though I’d love to know the secret he told Walt). I think his weird Season1 was a response to being able to walk and having the island ‘speak’ to him. (Plus, he’s the StepFather).

I thought LockedBox was in their possession since the flight (and were social security should be) – perhaps seeing the body makes MIB/smokey/whoever manifest in true form.
