what happens after death?
I was reading the Doc Jensen recap and he noted that this was a recurring theme of the season premiere. What happens after death? This got me to thinking about the episode “Dave”. Is it possible that in some way Dave was telling the truth when he was trying to get Hurley to jump? If Hurley died, he would “wake up” from his dilusion. Hurley said that when he accepted that Dave wasn’t real, he started to get better. The Hurley we saw on the plane seemed to be “better”. Seemed to be okay with the lottery winnings and viewed himself as lucky. Just a thought. Any input?
Nahhhh – I think in ’77 (maybe later) the island sunk w/all the people on it. Therefore there was no island from which (the winning) ‘numbers’ were transmitted for Leonard to hear and eventually repeat in the nuthatch for Hurley to hear – so he played different numbers.
Hurley’s destiny was to win the lottery, regardless of the numbers. (And this may be key to this season – even if we choose our destiny … )
Answering the ‘Subject’ question – you go to another show – or a movie (like Charlie in FF, Juliette in V, or Ana Lucia in ‘Avatar’)
I like the idea that it is Hurley’s destiny to win with or without the numbers.
I was wondering if Dave could now be MIB trying to trick Hurley in to killing himself?
Also other people on this site have mentioned that just before Juliet dies she starts talking about coffee like she is in another world possible passing in to an alternative universe cause she is dying?
I think we have confirmation that Hurley isn’t delusional now. He sees dead people, it’s his gift.
Maybe Dave was real. Aren’t there Libby theories stating that Dave’s her dead husband who was trying to get Hurley to kill himself?
I agree with waycurious. Hurley along with probably everyone else on the plane seem to have had different events happening to them.
And like waycurious mentioned, they end up fullfilling their destinies one way or another.
If when you die you get to see the whole picture. Kind of like going up in a plane and looking over the river that is time. You can see all events, splits and alternate timelines, and where it all ends. That explains why Juliet said what she did “It worked” (what worked? the alt timeline, or smokie’s plan to kill jacob?) It also explains why the other dead people keep coming back, they’ve seen and they want to influence the outcome.
Tas,
You make really good points!!
I took it as “It worked. We reset everything. There’s somewhere else where we’re all happy now.”
But I really like that thought about the dead wanting to play a part in the end-game. So, the dead could still be fighting the war. Trying to influence what best favours their goal. They can even be playing on different “teams”. 🙂
My initial thoughts on Juliet’s comment were the same, BUT as Miles is lying on her grave there is full on smokie sound effects just before he answers Sawyer, made me think the comment could be taken the other way. That’s also why I think Christian is just dead, but appearing like Charlie etc.. working on an idea which explains how and why dead people appear to some, hoiw emotionally attached you are to someone or how much of an emotional state you are in.
I think that when you die, your “dead” selfs conscience could possibly linger into your “alternate” self.
Which makes me believe that Juliet is going back and forth from each self, much as Charolette does when she is dying and jumping back to her past.
There are obviously other ways as we saw in the constant…but this would be more permanent, as you describe.
Not 100%…just taking a shot. Good question.
