This is all part of Jacob’s plan.

Jacob death was very odd. He didnt fight back. He didnt try run away. He even provoked Ben.
Whats intresting. is that… jacob can see the future. thats how he knew locke was gonna fall off the building. he knew “they’re comming”. He knew that the losties would need to go to the temple (because of the note inside gituar).
But think about this… Why did jacob revive locke? If he would have seen the furure; he would have realised that because of locke living. jacob died.
This is all part of jacob’s plan.
What is his plan though. my guess would be to kill MIB. he cant do it himself. obiously. so he needs to get killed, for some reason… Possibly so that the temple’s fountain will go dark, thus giving sahid the power to kill MIB. (Ben got healed in the normal fountain which allowed him to kill jacob ?)
Mabye jacob just wanted to be free. wanted to stop living (i assume he doesnt age) but if jacob dies, MIB will be fully unleashed. so he sets up a series of events which will cause both of them to die in the end. so jacob can be “free” and MIB won’t destroy the world.
I just commented on another post that perhaps Christian Shephard had to die in Sydney in order to bring Jack there, and then to the island. Maybe Jacob knew that he had to die too. It certainly seemed that way.
