Why can’t Widmore kill Ben, Ben kill Widmore? Why can’t MIB kill Jacob?
What is this “rule” that they all talk about regarding killing? Is it a human-made rule, or is it a universal rule?
Is it not strange the amount of murderous savages these blokes on the plane and Others on the island are or turn into?
They all kill, kill, kill. Even friendly, loving chaps like Bernard. But then when you get some pretty tough dudes like Ben and Charles, they can not kill each other even though they want to. “Dont tell me what I cant do” seems to be a lot of their favourite phrases. BUT they very carefully obey this certain rule.
Maybe someone can look at this list I found:
http://www.losttvfans.com/page/Who+Killed+Whom%3F
and help me make a link between why so many people are killing, and why certain people die, and why certain people are “not allowed” to kill someone specific.
This may help develop some further theories

I’ve always wondered if they physically can’t kill each other.
They always say “you know the rules” as if they are reinforcing the law. Although, what is REALLY keeping them from doing it? If Ben stabs Charles in the chest, will Charles’s wound instantly heal OR will Ben somehow combust?
OR is of a guideline? As in Ben can kill Charles but it will be frowned upon and Ben will have to suffer some sort of consequence. Which brings up the question… what consequence? These people have been through a lot of horrible things. Ben having to kill all of dharmaville, seeing his daugter die, and physical torture from Sayid, and ultimately banned from the island (when he moved it). So, What can be such an awful punishment worth not killing the one person you really just want to kill?
I think it has something to do with Hawking’s WHH rule. The phantom blonde boy reminds me of her when he tells Flocke he can’t kill “him” (whoever him is) because maybe it already didn’t happen O__o So maybe Ben already knew that Widmore would be alive at a future date because Eloise told him?
Ben and Charles.. Jacob and MIB.. makes me wonder if they actually might be the next folks battling it out on the island for the next generation!
I am wondering if it has something to do with being related to each other. Like if you kill someone you are related to closely then you could mess up stuff when you time travel. I was also thinking that none of the candidates have killed anyone that they are related to, yet, but the rest of the candidates that were written but have been crossed off are either dead or have killed a family member. Linus, killed his dad, and Kate killed her father….not sure about everyone….
I thought about that today too. i tried to think about, when someone said something about rules. and one special moment was chang, when he is asked, if they can kill hitler. “Don’t be ridiculous. There are rules” …
I think these are the same rules, everyone referrs to. Probably people who cannot be killed because of the rules (Jacob, Mib, Ben, Charles,…), will be important in the future.
just a thought…
Was thinking about Jacob’s death.
Only one leader can see Jacob at a time. (Probably just to prevent what happened.)
If Flocke is MIB … he’s NOT the leader.
Ben was the one leader who could see Jacob (silly him, didn’t ask to). Also, maybe only the Other’s leader could kill Jacob, but not MIB. (and vice versa).
i don’t think Flocke has been shown to be capable of killing in human form or capable of being smoke on the beach. i think he killed a boar in the jungle but he certainly could have done that as the Lockeness monster. not sure where that leaves us, but those restrictions might apply to other circumstances?
That boar looked kinda’ ripe. Maybe he just found it.
because Lost is a chess match, MIB is the black King, and we all know that in chess it’s difficult for the King to capture/kill… he needs to be protected & in the right position…
I remember Ben saying that the rule about moving the island is that you cant come back. But he did. But then Ben is a liar. Or maybe he was misinformed. I always wondered how he knew so much about moving the island. I wonder if someone else has done it before.
