There’s no other explanation.
This show is not going to end how anyone expects it to, no matter what you’re thinking. All the hopefuls who are banking on reason and some sort of complex, scientific matrix of an explanation are going to be severely disappointed. It’s just not possible at this point.
I’m seriously leaning toward aliens. To the few of you who are left reading this after that last sentence, hear me out. Sayid stabbed E.I. (name credit goes to Chiefof16) and he didn’t die, let alone bleed. Apparently the same guy can turn into a pillar of smoke and kill you.  That can’t exactly happen in the natural world, so you have to consider the supernatural. I’m no MENSA member, but I consider myself to be relatively intelligent, as I assume most of the other people are on this site. We share a common interest in a show that makes us think, and for some people that means doing more research than I collectively spent on all my term papers in my academic career.  With all the intelligence floating around out here, you would think if there was a scientific or natural explanation for the events taking place on the show, we’d know it by now.ÂÂ
I think it’s time to throw in the towel and give in to the idea that there is no logical, natural, or scientific explanation. They’re friggin’ aliens.

i have to disagree somewhat. Just because there seems to be life forms on the Island that we cannot understand in any scientific way doesn’t instantly mean that they are aliens.
Are things like God and Allah aliens? Are Shiva, Vishnu, Zeus and Osiris (etc) aliens? No they are not, they are entities that various people do and have believed in.
Religion cannot be scientifically proven but does that mean that it is wrong?
Lost has brought together many different religions and the beliefs of many civilisations in its storyline. What if what we are now seeing is the physical form of some of these gods brought to life by the power of the island. Things like this dont need a scientific explanation if you ask me, maybe a religious explanation but not necessarily a scientific one.
When you explain it that way Dharmass, it sadly kind of makes little bit of sense. Like I_Am_Jacob says though, they could also easily go into a mythological or religious explanation.
Regardless, Dharmass, you’re right. This WILL end in a way no one’s really expecting. I say that with confidence because even the smartest theorists out there haven’t been exactly right to this point in the story. There’s a better chance of aliens at this point than anything scientifical playing out. Way to look at the big picture.
I believe that the show will end in a similar way that the original “The Prisoner” ended. They will seemingly destroy every tenent of the show and yet will still be in keeping with the show’s ‘beliefs.’
Chiefof16, I would say that the smartest theorists out there have been completely wrong all the time. The less smart theorists concluded after the end of season 5 that Locke = MIB = Smokey, and for sure it seems that they were right.
Once you have disproved all logical possibilties, possibilities you have left no matter how illogical have to be considered.
If I had to guess how its gonna end I would say that they’ve been thinking outside the box all along. I would’nt be surprised if they are creating a new story unlike the ideas people have had about them retelling a old story new.Whatever the explainations are I’m sure they’ll cover all their bases to make the story line fit. Can’t wait to see how it all ends!
@ilie. i thought that mib=flocke=smokey. i am a mensa member.
ekolocation, when I said the smartest theorists, I meant the ones who have presented the most elaborate theories, deviating significantly from the most obvious interpretation of what we have actually been shown on Lost. It’s always intriguing reading, but probably not very close to how Lost will actually play out.
usually the more elaborate the theory, the more it relies on assumption and is based on things there are no evidence of. the more elaborate one gets, the less likely their theory will come to fruition, because while the writer’s theory is no doubt elaborate, they are working backwards in relation to us.
so no doubt the elaborate theorists will be wrong all the time.
It’s cool to write a theory and to find that you were right about something but I don’t think that’s really why we post theories here… is it? We’re never going to actually predict anything about the show accurately because really, it’s just fiction. The whole universe in which the story takes place is made up and therefore different from reality. We can’t predict anything there. I thought we came up with ideas, theories, whatnot for fun. We can pose something and argue about it, trying to fit it into the little we actually know about the show and what we know about the universe that we live in but really, anything can happen. The producers/writers have created their own universe and whatever they say, goes.
foreverpuzzled, a very clever reference to Sherlock Holmes but very very true. Nice.
Maybe we need to start thinking more illogically.
I actually thought I had borrowed that one from Star Trek.Either way thought it seemed appropriate.
Foreverpuzzled, this is probably what you were thinking of from Star Trek as said by Spock, “Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
i really hope it’s not aliens. or a dream sequence.or like that film identity where they’re all in someone’s (hurley’s) head.
