Same SCENE different people
Not sure if this is obvious or not. When Flocke says to Ben that he needs him to stay behind to protect the Island, Ben is Flocke’s candidate and Jacob is obviously trying to choose a successor to himself IMO is Jack. Will the endind scene be Jack and Ben sat on the beach as the substitutes/new leaders etc. Only this time it would be Jack saying to Ben “do you know how much i want to kill you?” As it was Ben who convinced him to return to the Island and now he’s there for X amount of time.
Apparently (so people keep posting) we’ve seen the final SCENE already not necessarily the the same characters though. Please excuse me if this was an obvious observation and thats why people haven’t posted anything in reference to this topic

Why are people saying that we have seen the ending scene?
i don’t know i think it could stem from the old ‘the clue is in the pilot episode’ theory/myth
Ok. And we’ve heard that the creators of the show always knew what the final scene would be. I’ve sort of assumed that it would mean that it ends as it started – with someone opening or closing their eye.
ive heard that aswel. However wasn’t jack meant to die in the first few episodes. The writers always change their mind or try to throw us off the scent.
This post is just my own opinion im not saying it’s gospel or anything.
I think Matthew fox stated that we’ve seen the final scene…. But that was way before that scene on the beach
I’m not sure Fox said we’ve seen the final scene. But I KNOW he said he knows the final scene. Do a youtube search for fox and lost final scene, you’ll probably find it. He also said that’s the way he thought it would end.
He of course does not reveal the final scene.
hmm. I always thought the last scene would be the original scene of Jack meeting Kate for the first time. It was such a weird meeting and maybe this is another time loop and they meet up again and they have the same conversation. The whole scene was kind of sarcastic.
Okay If you wanna see that Matt Fox in that interview, search youtube using Fox and Final Image.
I believe the producers said something along the lines of “it will end where it all began”…to me meaning in biblical, prehistoric, or an even earlier time…
Thats just my take on an assumption of wordplay in their answer…
I like what A.E.S says in the comment above. I’m thinking something along the lines that near the end of the season we’ll see that Jacob and MiB are through utilising the power of the island have become the pre-cursors to mythology and religion. The only way for us to unlock the riddle of the island is to go back to where it all started (historically) rather than the start of the series (pilot). There’s also the possibility that ‘the place where it all begun’ is in the future and not the past.
I think when the show was being drafter, and Michael Keaton was thought to be playing the character of Jack he was going 2 die in the pilot, and Kate was going to be the leader of the crash survivors… (This was in the earliest stages of writing… So, I don’t thin he has anything really to do with what happened when filming began.)
Also, Matthew Fox is the only one that knows the ending of the show. He has said this, and the producers have confirmed it. I’ve always thought the final scene may be Jack opening his eyes in the jungle… After last week’s episode I definitely feel in the end Jack will be the candidate, and we will see everything our losties have went through has been a test.
Thanks guys.
AES i do like the idea of it being more along those lines rather than waking up in the jungle scene. That is kind of what i was trying to get at with Jack and Ben sat on the beach scene. Time, the world, the sequence of events but with different people all start again on that beach.
LAW80: Although i do kind of like the idea of the beginning in the future and not the past i just dont think it will go down that road.
Sinister: I also do think that everything we’ve seen is a test and that IMO Jack will become leader. I think when the test finishes 815 will land safely and only Jack will have been brought to the island by whatever means. The rest of our Losties never recall the events on the island as they never took place, their memories wiped kind of.
Watching Jack in ‘Dr. Linus’ was when, for me, it was confirmed that he would be most likely to be the chosen ‘candidate’. He started the series IMO being whiney and irritating and strictly believing that certain things happen because they can and things that are impossible cannot happen. In the ‘Black Rock’ when he’s sat with Richard, watching him test his faith was a beautiful moment. For me it’s a turning point in Lost where we see someone whose really developed as a character.
As an after thought, did anyone think the ending of the latest episode was extremely reminicsent of past episodes? Three guys returning to the rest of the group, soppy music playing, slow motion running then few bad chords and bang – there’s Alan Dale.
I think Matthew Fox knows the end because they had to tell him how it ended after they told him his character would die.
In addition, I would like to add that he said the ending would be “bittersweet”.
Matthew Fox did say the ending would be bittersweet…
@ bigdaveg… that ending would be pretty cool, but i don’t think they will all end up landing safe… I think we will see, whatever happened, happened…
the ending of the episode was AWESOME, and VERY reminiscent, I had the same exact thoughts…
now that I think of it, it makes perfect sense if they already filmed Fox dying and any re-appearances he may have then he’s done and they’d tell him how it ended but nothing between.
Jump…
I think Locke is going to kill Jack soon.
Glad to see you agree Sinster! I don’t know about that though AllGoodThings. We still don’t know whether or not Flock is going to try and recruit Jack
I’ll be he tried already when he told Jack to come with him and not call the boat… i’m willing to wager, though am probably wrong, that when John sees Jack, especially faithy Jack, he’ll want him dead ASAP and he’ll try and get one of the candidates, sawyer, to do it for him.
Yes the ending of that episode was almost identical to another episode where sun turns to see hurley and Jack come out of the woods… I think it was when they returned from being held at the hydra…
Yes I believe Jack has to be the chosen one with how much he has changed as a person going from not wanting anything to do with destiny and what not to searching for his own destiny and trusting in fate and having faith… It will be what Jacob was searching for in a leader
How about the end scene being a shot of an eye opening, the camera pans out and it is Jack being awoken in the shadow of the statue (or what’s left of it), ready to take over for Jacob and save us all.
All these endings are so boring for all of us who expect it to end something like that.
Here is my shot at it:
Jacob fails. The world explodes. Everything fades to black or white. And then (bam!):
YOU LOST.
PLAY AGAIN?
Cant play again…it only ends once…
Unless you’ve got another life left, that’s my theory to how they can all stay alive. The logic is there, just do you have 50p to play again from your last checkpoint?
ilieintheshadowofthestatue – have to admit, that would be awesome.
