Theory on Widmore’s Motives, my first theory on the site.

Written 18th March

Charles Widmore is not a dumb man. He seemed very eager to accept Sawyer’s proposal of bringing Locke to him (sick of MIB, Nemesis, Flocke, etc. it’s just Locke.), but I don’t believe Locke’s death is what he wants. I believe it is a compromise. Widmore has a sub, and Locke badly wants off the island, so Widmore could use the sub as a bargaining chip to get what he wants from Locke. Another belief is that the pylons could have been set up to trick Sawyer into thinking Locke and Widmore were enemies. They could already have a deal for the sub in place when he was banished from the island. When Locke and Widmore come together, I think they will join together, not duke it out. Just a theory.

I stumbled on to LOST almost on accident. Sick at home on a weekend, looked for shows to watch at home, and came on LOST. After episode 1, there was no going back, blazing through the first five seasons and it is now my favorite all-time show.

  1. I could see that happening. The only question I have is, why even bother to send Sawyer over there to snoop around, if you already knew why Widmore there. Unless Smokey wasn’t sure whether or not he was there yet. Which makes me wonder. Can Smokey cross water? If not, then maybe the island is designed to keep him trapped ( by water ) on all sides. I think he can only cross water while taking on the form of someone. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

  2. Hmmm, would make sense since Widmore probably wants to stay on that Island now that he has finally found it after 20 years of searching for it, an why fight him if he doesnt want to stay?

Makes me think of whats in that locked room on Widmore’s sub(?)

Maybe a Ton of C4 that Widmore will explode when the sub is far enough underwater killing Flocke and the other survivors or its just a room full of nothing used just so Sawyer mentions it to Flocke or just as a scare tactic IDK but Widmore is a very resourceful so it can be anything in that box…Great first theory, Keep em coming.

  3. there was another theory i read here that was saying how widmore and floke were conning sawyer, where as we were lead to believe that sawyer was conning them both. i think you’re right in that they gana come together, widmore knew what he was doing when he made locke come back to the island so he obvi has a plan

  4. @ LostAddict: Widmore was pretty much banished and left via sub.

I wrote a theory saying similar things, namely, UnLocke was going to use Widmore’s sub to leave. Whether they fight or make a deal..who knows.

  5. Good theory, I would agree with this. But who/what is in the locked room? That is the key question!! I believe it is Aaron/Jacob, who Locke fears most.

  6. I think it is Desmond. Widmore could have captured him when he was in recovery because Eloise told him “The island isn’t done with Desmond.” Desmond could be very key to what Widmore wants if it is truly him inside the locked room. I think Locke sent Sawyer over to the island to check if he was there. Another interesting thing: it seems Locke is trying to bring Ben and Widmore together. Remember he told Ben that his people were on the Hydra Island!
