All you need is Love…

… Love is all you need

desmond isnt the constant! love is the constant! (barf) desmond had a great love that’s what made him the constant. it was more than obvious in tonight’s episode that love is what reminded them of their past life before jughead. (it’s kinda odd that jack/sawyer didnt have the same flashback type feelings with kate).

so my thoughts on the episode:
– charlie says “this doesnt matter, none of this matters.” so does that mean the alternate universe doesnt matter. is it all just a hallucination type thing caused by the radiation. a world where they can achieve what they have always wanted: desmond-widmore’s approval, jack-being a better father than his own, faraday always had a little wanna be rockstar in him, charlie-happy about his fame, widmore and elouise together again… OR widmore says talking about smoky getting off the island, again – “my daughter, your son, blah blah will not be there” or something along those lines and last week when he was talking to jin he said they will “ceaze to exist” in neither of these did he ever say die. so in the alternate timeline penny is penny milton, daniel says she’s his half sister, she’s single cuz she’s coming to the party alone so if she was from the widmore half of daniel’s half sister then she would be penny widmore, yet she’s not. so she ceases to be widmore’s daughter, desmond’s son obviously doesnt exist, sun got shot in the belly so her and jin’s baby wont exist. so with all that i would say alternate is the universe with smoky off the island… SO THEN this leads me to believe that smokey is something else, not an evil being per say but more of like an incarnation of the magnetic energy of the island which could be released through bombs or just by smoky leaving and spreading it all over the place? i donno, that sounds kinda stupid but i’m not very clear on the whole thing.

another thing, they seem to be reminded of their island existence when they are near death, once again brings me back to the idea of the island being purgatory whether we like it or not!

p.s. Eloise is the shit! she’s the mastermind behind everything!

predictions of the next 5 episodes, if they end up tying it all together that is, desmond goes and shows everyone from the plane the way of their past, they are reminded of what used to be, daniel comes up with another plan to blow something else up, they end up merging the timelines. eloise is like haha you dumb bitches i knew all the secrets of the island all along. wtf happens with jacob and smoky? i donno, i dont care, im over those two.

the end

i used to have a life before Lost. i remember a time when i had interests and hobbies, but now i seem to have acquired the ability to talk about Lost theories for 8 hours straight, then when i leave and have to hang out with people who dont watch Lost i find myself relating things they say to Lost. i may need help soon! 1. Ugh! Love being “the constant”– you are definitely hitting the nail on the head I’m afraid, but I so hope this isn’t the case because if this is one of those “love conquers all” things… I will seriously disown Lost. This episode WAS called “Happily Ever After”… sigh!

    Onward to my real comment:

Obsessed, I enjoy how you call out all the times they focused on radiation/electromagnetic energy. They seem like they’re priming to explain DHARMA’s existence (pleeeease? pretty please?) since the unique properties of the Island, including the pocket of intense EM energy is what intrigued the scientists (supposedly).

In Recon, Miles briefly mentioned his dad, so we could see him brought up again, and of course– Charlotte was reintroduced for a reason (if only to give Dan’s presence more context in this episode).

Good call on pointing out the whole “hallucination” thing. I want to take one step further and connect that to the ideas of mirrored reality we see, as well as the nurse saying “double vision”. I hope these aren’t just false hints the writers throw out. I love the idea of “double vision” and I enjoyed that this episode is starting to converge the two timelines!

Devil’s advocate time! Yes the Island could very well be a type of purgatory, or as it’s been suggested before a “cork” of sorts between dimensions/timelines… or how about this?

Could the Island still be the “true” reality and this alternate reality be some jilted universe (as in, what we might think the Island is). Hence, when Charlie thought he was dying, he was actually coming back to his true life? Des is actually “dreaming” and all that? Kind of a Matrix deal (what you think is reality is actually fake)?

That sounded crazier than I thought it would, I think I should sleep before I get on these forums…

    Thoughts? Consider it!

  2. yep, the whole charlie dying is him coming back to the “real” reality of the island is exactly what i was trying to get at. not sure if that makes any sense at all. but what if, if you die in the fake mirror universe you are brought back to the beginning of the island like right after the crash.

um ok now i need to stop or this is gana sound like complete gibberish

  3. Yay I love this post (I am a girly girl, barf!), and have always been the most touched by Desmond and Penny’s love story – by far portrayed to be the strongest relationship on the show hehe so I am with love being the constant! 😉

In regards to your smokey comment, let me try and nut this out:

So maybe MIB’s smokeyness essence is directly linked to the electromagneticstuff. The island is unseen/unfound due it constantly moving (through time, even if it’s only minutes forwards or backwards) and also it is surrounded in a radius of an invisible bubble of some sort. So if MIB successfully leaves the island, this bubble breaks/electromagneticstuff leaks and envelops the earth eventually, maybe not straight away.

Jacob and his followers/decendants roles is to ensure that the physical essence of the island (MIB) never leaves, and Dharma and their decendants (Widmore’s latest crew) role is to ensure that the electromagneticstuff is always contained – either way the world would end. I think the moral of the story is, sometimes faith is stronger than science, and vice versa, so you always need both (Jacob-like people, and Dharma-like people).

    Ok, now I’m late-night rambling!

  4. Actually I think I want to take back something I said above, I can’t say I’m with love being the constant – as Daniel had in his journal that Desmond Hume was his constant. And unless Daniel loves Desmond lol I will definitely have to retract that statement.

Weird though as I was thinking about constants after Recon actually, when in the real/non-alt timeline – Sawyer asks Kate if Miles is ok. I thought, aw that’s nice, and then thought – maybe a constant is more about a bond that you have with a person – as Sawyer/Miles obviously have a true friendship in the alt timeline and I was thinking they could be constants for each other (a thought I had pre-tonight’s episode).

After tonight’s episode though, I think the strong bond/love/constant has to be created in the non-alt timeline obviously, seeing as there are now hints towards it’s unreality-ed-ness. Ok I think it’s bedtime.

  5. I think constants are something important to you, and love would seem to be the most important thing to the losties we just saw…but it could also be a turning point in your life’s work, like desmond was to faraday.

eloise. my god. i was waiting for her to recrazy-ize everything. It would seem that she prefers the alt universe, maybe she sees it as a way of saving her son…

thank god faraday was back. i missed him.

  6. (barf) Love seemed to be the constant for Dogen as well. (barf) What an abrupt turn this show made last night. We’re all anxious for action, and excitement, and answers…..and we get love (barf). I still enjoyed the episode though.

  7. So if when they end the flash-sideways universe and they “wake up” in the normal 2004 timeline, could this be why Jack wakes up in the jungle? Kind of how they were transported off the Ajira flight. That could be the reason why they all survived the plane crash. Because they came over from the flash-sideways.

  8. ObsessedWlost, I really like the thoughts you’ve expressed in your post, and I agree with much of what you say.

In the ‘alternate’ time line, they appear to have everything that they wanted, but the sacrifice they made was love. Considering this sacrifice and if this is what the ‘alternate’ represents, Charles Widmore’s words to Jin become more meaningful.

Nemesis succeeded in with i’infecting’ Sayid. He is void of emotion and conscience. Perhaps, this is what would spread if he escaped to the ‘alternate’ time line on the outside world.

I think they will choose to live life on ‘the island’, and say good-bye to a world without love in the long run.

As for Eloise, it would appear that she has ‘insider’ knowledge of what should occur and when, but I don’t believe that she is the mastermind.

    Again, really nice theory!

  9. thanks for the comments you guys!
i have now officially come to the conclusion that eloise created the alternate timeline as a way of saving her son. i mean what mother would be ok with killing her own son! even if he was time traveling! so she had to send the losties back to the island so that they would blow up the bomb and create this other universe where her son would be alive, she would still be with the daddy, and live HAPPILY EVER AFTER! she probably even pushed daniel towards music in the alternate life so he wouldnt go into science and figure shit out, thats why she specially requested for him to play with a rock band or whatever. she obviously knows a lot about the powers of the island so she knew how to make it happen. and while she was at it she was like let me give other people what they want too, like desmond wants charles’s approval, but she also had to take something away from them, and that something was loveeeee (more loveless people in the alternate: sayid-no naida, jack- divorced, sawyer-single and lonely) and when time is right (“you’re not ready yet desmond blah blah” -eloise) she’ll work her magic and let the timelines merge or whatever the heck she wants to happen and that way she’ll get to have her son alive.

  10. obsessedWLost –

I like your thinking with that last comment (10). But there were other factors that brought the losties back to the island which seemed out of Elouis’s control. Locke happened to say the right thing to Jack at the right time about Christian. Jack then talked a couple others into going back as well (if I remember correctly).

And as much as I like your thinking with Elouis, damn that would suck. If the sole purpose of this alt timeline was to save Daniel, then I no longer like him. It would have been a real drag this season having to witness a rather boring sideways timeline that would have little impact in the long run.

  11. Regarding Elouise being the shit and mastermind and all:

Desmond: “How do you know what I want?”
    Elouise: “Because I bloody do!”

    😀
