Ben and Dad conversation proof of a third reality perhaps?
I posted this back in the beginning of March and posed the question as a comment on another person’s theory here as well, but no one has offered a comment or their take, and I am so curious to hear some ideas. So many of you have great insights. My Question: The camera pans from the Alt Reality Flight 815 to the sunken island complete with Dharma houses below so we assume they are occurring simultaneoulsy in 2004. However, if this was the case, why would Alt Reality Ben and his dad (nice Roger) have a conversation about Dharma and how maybe Ben’s life would have been different if they had stayed implying that they could have stayed. If the island was under water, would they not have mentioned something about it be sunken now that Ben is an adult? It is unlikely that they would say that maybe they should have stayed on the island w/o saying something about it being underwater now in 2004. It would seem that the sunken island is a different time or different reality. Your thought, please?
I think that in the alternate reality Ben and his father were successfully evacuated from the island in the submarine and Roger is unaware of the island’s fate. Now I think if there is room for one alt reality there is room for multiple worlds. As they say we are all heading the same way, we are just on different roads.
Thank you for your comment Skipdrocer. That is a definite possibility. However, perhaps the sunken island will be the meshing of the two realities and figure into the finale.
At the culmination of the on-island events/timeline this season, we will see what sinks the island(and how jack got that scratch). There will be a mass-reincarnation with memories that are ‘off’ as Libby puts it. As Alpert says regarding Young Ben Linus before he is brought back to life ‘he’ll never be the same and he won’t remember any of this’. That’s thematic foreshadowing….most people in the ‘alt’ will never be the same and won’t remember what really happened. The heroic sacrifices of our beloved Losties will be Lost forever.
Ask yourself this…if Jughead is what created the ‘alt’, and Dr. Pierre Chang had his crushed just before Jughead was detonated(as we saw in The Incident), then how come in the sideways he has a perfectly functioning pair of arms(whereas in the early Dharma videos, he has a prosthetic). If Jughead split reality into two realities, and his arm injury happened before Jughead was detonated, he should have a prosthetic arm in both timelines. This is proof that Jughead DID NOT create the ‘alt, nor sink the Island.
