Become the Smoke Monster?
I just had this crazy idea that perhaps the only way to defeat the Smoke Monster is to become both the Protector and a Smoke Monster yourself. It sounds like the perfect union. Bound to the island by yourself so you can never leave. This of course assumes that when MIB was thrown into the light he didn’t put the light out. It also assumes that one smoke monster could kill another smoke monster. Further more you’d have to hope that you wouldn’t lose your position as Protector when you lose your body/humanity.
IÂ based this on my first crazy idea that perhaps “Mother” was a smoke monster and the Protector all rolled up into one but for a few reasons I couldn’t figure out how to make that work, so let’s suffice to say that she was only the protector although if you can think up a way for her to be both I’ll be glad to tell you why I think she can’t be.
i think she was both in one. the light did not go out though. if u watch across the sea again it looks like it went out cause black smoke was pouring through the cave. they never went back to another shot of it after smokie left the light. proof the light is still on is when ben turns the donkey wheel if i remember correctly there was plenty of light at that point. i really like your thought on this and think u will ultimatly turn out to be rite in the end.
Before the first episode this season I had a weird dream where Jack is pushing an object with wheels through a cave and on top of that was John Locke’s body.
This theory does not deserve the low ratings. I don’t think that this is far fetched. Maybe there is no light left in the cave but there might be another way of becoming the black smoke.
This whole theory of being bound to the island by your own powers is interesting and deserves credit.

@jmanyc If I had to guess I’d say that the low score is cuz I said I don’t agree with the “Mother” is Smokie theories. I just can’t seem to buy how the world didn’t end with her there alone on the island if she really was the Smoke Monster. In any case, not concerned with the rating just concerned with getting real feedback, which you provided so thank you.
@ ar420316 you are most likely correct that the light didn’t go out, I simply wanted to discuss that as a possibility. Ben turning the wheel is pretty good evidence of that. Especially since MIB explains that what Ben did was exactly what MIB intended to do and that involved using the light. So yes, it must still be on.
by no means metaldude26 did i mean to sound like i was bashing your theory. i think your theory will turn out to be rite in the end. i think if someone becomes the protector and the smoke monster also there is no way for him or her to leave the island or find a loophole. u will be rite. good observation and good theory
Definitely did not take your post as bashing, just wanted to comment on how you answered one of the questions I had about my own theory. Since, as you proved, the light is still on then someone else could potentially become a smoke monster.
I really like the idea that there could be more than one smoke monsters because there is some evidence that there was a smoke monster before MIB and that it was vanquished meaning MIB himself can be vanquished. I also like this because it means that MIB is really the Smoke Monster and not just one of the people who’s bodies it has assumed.
Geez metaldude – You consider what ar420316 to be bashing? That explains a lot. ar420316 actually gave you a GOOD comment. I guess it just takes time for some people to get used to a little constructive criticism.
