Goodbye Richard
That was the cheapest deaths since the series began. Worse than Ilana or Lapidus. Come on, even damned Nikki and Paulo got a better sendoff than Ricardo!
Lets sound off, who thought that was a death worthy of the immortal? I vote nay!
I have my fight gloves on if any of youse want to argue the opposite…

I agree with you, I think Zoe died in a better way. Again we see the comment about not speaking to MIB, it obviously has a significant meaning if they keep bringing it up. RIP Richard your death was pretty weak.
Yeah I was rather shocked by that, I sat up quick-smart when he flew across my screen 🙁 RIP Richard!!
I must say though, Ben turning around and walking towards the chair in his “okaaayy I’m just gonna move slowly over here” manner made me laugh out loud. In fact I was expecting to shed a few tears in this episode and instead I had way too many laugh out loud moments (thanks to Hurley, Miles, Desmond)..
i agree hasBen, my friend and have been watching every ep this season together, and we have one rule; don’t speak until the commercial break. But when Ben walked away after Richard died we both burst out laughing.
I was the worst part of season 6 – no doubt.
i was watching this episode and quite enjoying it up until that point. i was furious with the most pathetic and weak death of the entire series.
Richard who was one of the most interesting and mysterious characters and also one of the best actors was just killed off in a way that a minor character would almost find cheap.
i was just watching it thinking “you must be f*cking joking me?”
i have been quite vocal in my views that this season has been pretty poor but Richard’s death was easily the lowest point by a LONG way.
wait so how do we know for sure the smoke monster throwing richard far means he is dead? Didn’t jacob make it so he could never die? couldn’t he still be alive and smokie was just trying to separate him from ben so he could have a talk with him. Also we do know that most of them time no one is dead in lost unless you see them actually die
Whoa! Yeah, I have to agree with livetogetherdiealone.
Way to jump to conclusions guys. I’ll agree with you if in fact that was his death scene. It was horrendous if that’s the case. That’s why I think he’s still alive. There is no way in hell they’d send off a major character in that fashion. I even considered Lapidus’s death to be pretty weak, and he didn’t touch Richard’s importance.
MIB would’ve killed him long ago if he could’ve I’m sure. (Well, I’m not SURE, but you know what I mean.)
All I have to say is PLEASE say it ain’t so! If they are going to kill this seemingly immortal man, then he really deserves a much better send off than that! If he is really dead, then I am going to be really, really pissed!
I vote NOT dead!
Not dead, at least I hope not cause that would be pathetic writing.
BiNG, I hate to say it, I mean I REALLY hate to say it, but you said something about pathetic writing…
I am hoping Lapidus is still alive because that Ajira aircraft is still in one piece. At the same time I am afraid of such a cheap save as having him secretely fixing it while all the other important events are taking place. Somehow that also smacks to me of “pathetic” writing.
Lets face the facts though, the numbers of live characters on the island is dwindling. The writers are getting rid of all the “dead” weight. Maybe next episode Ben and MIB will come across the broken and dying remains of Richard and he will get a last word in before expiring.
But they probably just wrote that in for shock value. “Hey, lets have Richard overestimate his value on the island and then get side winded by the smoke monster.” After all Richard’s value was to Jacob, not his brother.
Yes. “that thing” tried to recruit Richard at the begining of the season (possibly to get into the temple. That was then, this is now. Ricky got his full episode, now it was time to dump him so they could get on to the finale.
I am very disapointed in the writers.
I hope he isn’t dead but i doubt it. I think he was immortal only till Jacob was alive. I think when MIB said “it’s good to see you out of those chains” it had a double meaning.
Andre7,
you make a good point about the writers dumping Richards character now they’ve done his backstory. If that is it for him, thats a bit of a shame, as for his character finally dying would be a HUGE deal.
I can still see him turning up alive just at the right moment, an age old movie cliche, sacrificing himself to save a lostie and going out in a more nobel fashion.
Hrmm in regards to the writers tricking us, I am normally quite aware of it but being pretty much finale-time I thought it was finale-time for Richard 😉 maybe not, maybe we’ll see him flailing about in a bush, or, maybe the Losties will find his dead body and give him a nice burial (that will be good enough for me).
Did the shape of the smoke when it attacked Richard remind anyone of the way MIB knocked out Richard the first time he saw him after he said “good to see you out of those chains”? ie. the v-shape between thumb and fore-finger. I thought that was freaky.
@hasBen, I totally agree with your first comment, because when I saw Ben do his “ooooooo-kay” turn and sit in the chair, I was laughing my ass off.
But, I mean, and this may be slightly implausible, we don’t KNOW if Richard is dead for sure. We never saw a body, I mean, he could come crawling out of the jungle in the finale, looking like a regularly-beaten-up Ben, and somehow contribute. A longshot, but hey..
I hope he isn’t dead as well… I mean, why introduce this amazing character, give him such a great back story, then ignore him for a few episodes, then kill him off in a pathetic way? Stoooooooopid. I think he will make a return in the finale somehow though.
Wait… how did Lepidus die again? I totally missed that.
lostlove – If I remember correctly, a big metal door in the submarine flew at him due to water pressure. It all happened so fast it was easy to miss. I’m even doubting myself. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened though.
That is what happened…Here is the thing about Lapidus, and why I want him to be dead…
If he is dead…there is no pilot…if there is no pilot…the plane will not be used to leave the island…and my nightmare cannot come true.
His purpose was to instill hope that the plane can take them away…the only problem is…the plane is still there…which again…scares me.
I’m also a believer that Richard may not have died. We never saw his body and I think if he had died he’d be given a better send off.
Zerocool made a good point about how Richard is no longer immortal due to Jacob’s death. I think this could also apply to why Ben can now kill Widmore (because Jacob was the one who made it so they could never hurt each other?).
However, if what Jacob has created suddenly ceases to apply once he’s dead, then MIB should also be able to kill the candidates.
This show just makes me go round in circles 🙂
Yes…but now Jacob has his replacement…which is exactly why I think MIB will be able to change forms again too…hence the “Vader/Skywalker…Jack/Christian” showdown I want so badly…
